An extremely unusual antiquity now available in the Timeless Galleries: A Roman Lion Mould.

Dating from the 1st - 3rd century A.D., the ceramic mould is a fragment of a larger piece and displays a beautifully rendered image of a male lion. The mould has been made my impressing a die into the material before firing the ceramic. The mould would then have been used to produce decorated tiles. Note that the piece also displays part of the mane of a second lion in the bottom corner.

Measuring almost 14cm at its widest, and mounted on a plinth of aged oak and textured steel, this piece would make a great talking point in any room.
