A firm favourite with collectors, Equal-Ended Roman Plate Brooches (dating mainly from the late 2nd century) often display some of the most beautiful and intricate patterning of all Roman brooches, and this piece is no exception.

This type of brooch were cast across much of the Western Roman Empire (although In Britain, they are only found south of the Wash), and were typically hinged-pin rather than sprung. This particular example has been intricately decorated with beautiful geometric enamelling of the  central plate. The brooch has a width of around 3cm.
