Timeless are pleased to offer a restrung set of Roman Turquoise Beads set on silver thread and dating from the 1st - 4th century A.D.
At 38cm in length, the necklace is composed of annular and barrel-shaped turquoise beads with a large central bead made of carnelian. Carnelian (a semi-precious form of Chalcedony) was often paired together with Lapis Lazuli and turquoise by the Ancient Egyptians and Romans.
In Ancient Egyptian texts, carnelian, because of its fiery colour, was often associated with the blood-lust and rage of Egyptian deities, and was closely connected with the sun god, Ra.
With an excellent provenance, this lovely Roman Bead Necklace is one of a pair now available in the Timeless Galleries
